"The Box" is the ninth episode of the second season of Bates Motel. It aired on April 28, 2014.
Sypnosis
Norma tries desperately to connect with Norman; Dylan must make a decision over whether to risk his life to save a loved one; Romero enlists a former colleague to help him ascertain Norman’s involvement in a crime.
Summary
Nick Ford's henchmen keep Norman in a hot box in a field. Ford tells Norma he will let Norman go if Dylan kills Zane; if not, Norman dies. When Norman tries to escape from the hot box, he trips and Nick Ford's men grab him, finding a newspaper cutting with Blaire Watson's obituary and her pearl necklace. One of the men, Ben, later hands the pearls to Nick Ford, who realizes that Norman killed his daughter.
Dylan, unable to kill Zane, reports to Nick Ford. Fearing for his life, Dylan inadvertently kills Nick by slashing him across the face with a fire poker before he can learn Norman's location. Romero informs Norma that Norman had sex with Blaire Watson, and Norma tells him that Ford has kidnapped Norman. Norma also rejects George and he tells her he never wants to see her again.
Trapped, Norman's sanity slips, causing him to envision his mother saying she will protect him, and he recalls the blackout he had at Blaire Watson's house: it is revealed he sliced her throat while having sex with her and stole her pearl necklace as a trophy. Realizing what he's done, he comes to and screams.
